Sacred Heart University was founded in 1963 by the Most Reverend Walter W. Curtis, Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport. The major goal of the university is to provide the community with the affordable, quality education at a local Catholic university.
Four colleges are included in the University: College of Arts & Sciences, John F. Welch College of Business, College of Education and Health Professions, and University College. University College is created to meet the needs of the adult learners and offers evening, weekend and accelerated courses. All these courses are diverse and relevant to changing lifestyles.Online Learning at the UniversityThe students at this University are also offered an online learning opportunity which provides them with an Internet-based teaching/learning experience. All students enrolled in this program will use the Blackboard as the electronic delivery and learning platform for their distance study. Blackboard is a web-based system the purpose of which is to provide all students with a user-friendly interface with simple point and click access to course content, collaborative workspaces and online resource centers. It is available for the students 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and offers an easy information interchange between student and instructor. The courses are created to give students the opportunity to work both independently and interdependently with their instructor and with fellow students.
