Northeastern Online presents the flexibility and convenience of online and hybrid courses to School of Professional and Continuing Studies students. Using a web-based learning system, students view and complete weekly lessons on their own time. At present, we offer over 30 undergraduate programs, and over 20 graduate programs fully online, with almost 300 online courses being offered this term.
Financial AidThe University offers abundant financial aid to students seeking the benefits of a Northeastern education, through a combination of need-based aid and merit scholarships for undergraduates; and assistantships and stipends for students in academic and professional graduate programs.
ScholarshipsScholarships are awarded once a year by the Scholarship Committee. Final selection of scholarship recipients is usually made in late July, followed by award notification in August. Funds are usually applied to tuition expenses for the Fall quarter. Awards typically range in amount from $500 to $1,000.
AdmissionsThe School of Professional and Continuing Studies & the Lowell Institute School are committed to providing access to quality education. There are several points of entry for undergraduate and graduate students. Students who are admitted into a degree or certificate program enjoy a number of benefits including greater access to academic advisers and being eligible to apply for financial aid. Students interested in taking an undergraduate or professional development course can do so by simply registering for a course online. Undergraduate students should refer to the Student Hand book regarding how many courses an undergraduate student can take as a non-degree student. For those students seeking to take one or two graduate courses for professional achievement, an online application as a special degree student must be submitted; you must have a bachelor's degree and be admitted before registering and enrolling in a course.
Course content (lectures, additional materials, discussions, assignments, etc.) is presented using an online learning system called the SPCS Blackboard. Course material is presented on a weekly basis and you normally complete the assigned readings, assignments, etc. within that same week. You interact with other students and the instructor via the discussion board and email. You may also collaborate on group projects through the web interface. Midterms and finals are usually taken online and, once started, must be completed in a set amount of time. You may also be required to upload assignment files to the SPCS Blackboard. You don't need to log in to the course at any specific time during the week, but you do need to complete all your course work within the given time frame (usually that same week). Plan on the workload being at least the same as for a traditional on-ground course.
